The history of LiÈbana is determined by an exceptional microclimate and the riches of the land, that throughout the centuries was free from raids against the celtics, romans or arabs. This lack of incursions has allowed this region to preserve exceptional characteristics. Characters, such as Don Pelayo, Beato de LiÈbana, the Marquess of Santillana and monuments, such as the Mozarabic church of LebeÒa (Xth century) or the Monastery of Santo Toribio (Lignum Crucis with its Holy Jubilee and its Beatos).

Also part of its history are some megalithic sites, an exciting mining history (XIXth century), the royal hunts of chamois or the discovery trips of Saint Saud. Thanks to its historic isolation we still keep a very rich ethnography. Most famous autochthonous products: fruits, cattles, forests and vineyards, the eau-de-vie (distilled from grape residue) and a huge variety of cheese. A walk along its villages allows us to know these ethnographic aspects that still preserve all the purity in their tradition.
